Garry Shider passed away on June 16th.
I have been lucky enough to see him play with George Clinton twice. The first time I went with Whitney Weiss, which was awesome for numerous reasons but very special because she got us both Press Passes and we got to go backstage to meet George Clinton and crew. The photos I have posted below are from that concert in Atlanta late summer 2003. The video I have posted is from Stubb's BBQ April 21st 2010. This was my first concert in Austin. It was terrific, an incredible introduction to Austin's laid back vibe.
I have been a long time fan of the funk. The vibrant sounds, sets, and costumes of the P-Funk have been a major influence in my life and evolving aesthetic.
There ain't no party like a P-Funk party 'cause a P-Funk party don't stop!
