Artisan Handmade Market

Hey Internet! I was invited to participate in this awesome art event. It would be lovely if you came!

my current obsession:

Nick Cave's Soundsuits... no not Nick Cave of "Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds" but Nick Cave, performer/contemporary artist/extreme bad-ass. His work is completely joyous and original. His work has been a true pleasure to discover. Totally inspiring in every way!

To me this can only be described as euphoria.
Euphoric Euphoria.

20 Albums

Today, I got my Austin Public Library card. Yay. This isn't so much craft related. I realize that my blog isn't so craft related, at first glance. But, I promise my creativity is bubbling and new and amazing things will emerge within the year. I have recently joined The Austin Bead Society. It is a fun group and some cool things have come of it. I also have more items in my etsy shop than ever before.

Anyways, back to me going to the library. I went to a small neighborhood branch with the intention of checking out some CD's. My ipod is getting a little stale. Much to my delight the check-out limit on CD's is twenty! This is way more than I expected to go home with. Their selection was awesome. I am updating my iTunes with great enthusiasm.

Twenty Albums from the Library
  1. Neko Case. Live From Austin
  2. Lila Downs. La Cantina
  3. Various Artists. The Rough Guide to African Rap: Rappers, Rebels, and Ragamuffins
  4. Various Artists. Beleza Tropical - Brazil Classics 1. (omg compiled by David Byrne)
  5. Radiohead. The Bends
  6. The Neville Brothers. Walkin' in the Shadow of Life
  7. The Blind Boys of Alabama. I Brought Him With Me.
  8. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. In Step
  9. Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins. Rabbit Fur Coat
  10. The Slits. Cut
  11. Jerry Lee Lewis. Golden Hits
  12. Molotov. Con Todo Respeto
  13. Various Artists. Positively Reggae: An All Family Musical Celebration
  14. Roger Waters. Radio K.A.O.S.
  15. Trouble Funk. Early Singles
  16. De La Soul. Stakes is High
  17. Bebe. Pafuera Telarañas
  18. Gillian Welch. Hell Among the Yearlings
  19. The Band. Stage Fright
  20. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. In Step (extended version)

Algo que brilla

OH gosh. This assemblage style painting is by the artist Erin Currier. She lives and works in New Mexico. The title of the painting is Prom Queen Sergio Garcia as the Buddha. It is part of a series of cultural mash-ups. In several pieces she puts contemporary players from today's canon in to poses of ancient religious figures.

I think she is extremely talented. I am pleased to have discovered her via the wonders of Facebook. Hinton Harrison, a long time Bead Garden patron and my Facebook friend, posted an album of her current exhibit in Taos, New Mexico. Her work is refreshing and awesome.

I discovered Hinton has his own website. Check him out here: http://www.hintonharrison.com/. Hinton has written a book called My Journey for Peace and is a very interesting dude.

The Sea Also Rises: Interlude- The Camino Cats Make Their Escape

Today I went to the Renegade Craft Fair. (yay!) This is what I purchased. A hand-pulled print from local dudes.

Tim Doyle, to be exact, is responsible. I googled "Camino Cats," the shortened title, and found this awesome blog entry showing the step by step process of creating the print. It is even complete with pictures of the real life kitty who is driving the car. I also enjoyed Tim's mention of Damien Hirst. He is right, the shark in the tank is very, very Hirst. I can almost smell the formaldehyde.
